An Integrated Assessment (IA) has been prepared alongside this latest stage of consultation. This IA fulfils three roles in relation to Sustainability Appraisal, Equality Impact Assessment and Health Impact Assessment. The new Local Plan suggests sites that might be suitable to meet the housing, employment and other needs of the district.&nbsp;Last year, the Council launched a Call for Sites &ndash; an invitation for landowners, developers, town and parish councils, residents and others to put forward sites to be considered.&nbsp;Following the proposed new assessment criteria for sites, the Council has published the full list of sites submitted with each site assessed according to the proposed criteria.&nbsp;A review and assessment of sites will continue over the coming months to inform the new Local Plan &ndash; Preferred Options. From feedback shared so far, there isn&rsquo;t a clear consensus on the right way to accommodate growth across Breckland &ndash; some people favour the current Settlement Hierarchy, some believe new development should be close to the main roads &ndash; A11 and A47 &ndash; and others think growth should be in the larger market towns. Read more about <a href="https://brecklandlocalplan.commonplace.is/en-GB/proposals/feedback-summary/step1" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">feedback shared so far</a>.We would like your views on six alternative development scenarios that explore how growth could be split across the towns and villages and also focused on larger previously-developed, &lsquo;brownfield&rsquo; sites.&nbsp;When you have read the four alternative development scenarios below please continue to the bottom of the page to share your views in our feedback questions. Considering the new homes already allocated to Attleborough and Thetford, there would be no further requirements on these Key Settlements and the strategic sites at Swanton Morley Barracks and the Abbey Estate site would not be required to meet the housing targets for Breckland. <img src="https://res.cloudinary.com/commonplace-digital-limited/image/upload/v1702055721/projects/629f24b9234f33834737ac93/t5iabxwsldcbfsmwvj8v.jpg" class="fr-fic fr-dib" data-uw-rm-alt-original="" alt="two bushy green trees in a field during a sunset" data-uw-rm-alt="CT"> Everyone can put forward sites in Breckland that might be suitable for future development.&nbsp;Any interested parties, including landowners and developers, can suggest sites that may be able to accommodate new homes or employment space in the future.Following Breckland&rsquo;s Call for Sites in 2022, over 500 individual sites were put forward. Many of these will not be suitable and the next step is for the Council to identify a fair way to assess which ones to short list. We would like to hear your views on a proposed new criteria for assessing potential development sites.&nbsp;The proposed criteria &ndash; or checklist for assessing sites &ndash; considers a number of aspects such as whether it is a &lsquo;brownfield&rsquo; site i.e. previously developed land or &lsquo;greenfield&rsquo;; whether there is suitable access to roads, footpaths; the visual impact development might have on the landscape; as well as whether the site is immediately available.&nbsp;For each site, the Council proposes to indicate potential suitability against these considerations using a traffic light system (red = likely not suitable, amber = might be suitable and green = likely suitable).Assessment work still to doThe site analysis published here is an initial high-level assessment for Phase 1 of multiple phases for site selection. This concludes with an assessment of the alignment of each site to the emerging development options. Further, more detailed, site assessments will be undertaken on a smaller range of sites that will include feedback from key consultees and stakeholders on the potential constraints, impacts and infrastructure requirements of sites.
